With that task done, I flipped back to the other pages of settings. By default, Ghostery blocks trackers in the Advertising, Analytics, and Adult Advertising categories. You can turn off blocking or choose to block every kind of tracker.
You can also view and edit the full list of categories to be blocked, and even dig into the precise trackers in each category. I don’t picture many users fine-tuning settings at the tracker level, but some might want to add a few categories beyond the default. The remaining page of settings controls three feature areas: Anti-Tracking, Ad-Blocking, and Smart-Browsing. Smart-Browsing refers to a technique whereby Ghostery avoids full-on blocking when doing so would break the underlying web page. Rather than totally block the tracker, it simply strips out personal information.
